Our institute had organized a field visit at Jivan Adhar Blood Bank, Nanded. During visit Students observed the entire blood donation process, from donor registration to the collection of blood. They learned about the eligibility criteria for blood donors, such as age, weight, health status and the precautions taken to ensure the safety of both the donor and recipient. The blood bank staff demonstrated the various tests carried out on donated blood to check for infectious diseases (such as HIV, Hepatitis B and C, etc.). The students were educated on the importance of these screening procedures in ensuring the safety of blood products. Students were shown how blood is stored under controlled conditions to maintain its viability. The various methods of storage for different blood components (e.g., red blood cells, plasma, and platelets) were explained and students understood the need for strict temperature and humidity controls in these processes.
